Resource blogs for photographers

Types of blog posts for photographers

Gallery Blogs

Gallery blogs tell the story of an elopement, wedding day, or other photo session. They might include details about the clients, how the session was planned, the location or venue, and other participating vendors. These posts are usually divided into sections that follow the flow of the day, with photos that go along with each section. Gallery blogs serve as part of your online portfolio, and attract potential clients by giving examples of what a session could look like.

Resource Blogs

Resource blogs are informative guides on topics of interest to your clients. They might give guidance on how to get married in a specific location, or how to plan different aspects of a wedding or elopement day. These posts both draw new clients to your business by targeting keywords, and act as educational resources for existing clients.

Blog post length

I price blog writing based on the length of the text – but it’ll always be within a word count range we agree on before I start writing, so you’ll know the cost upfront.

I categorize blog posts as short, medium, or long based on the type of post. In general, I’ve found that 500 to 1,000 words is a good medium length for gallery blogs, and 2,000 to 3,000 words is a good medium length for resource blogs.

The longer a blog post is, the more in-depth the information. For example, in a gallery blog, a higher word count gives more room for personal details and anecdotes about the client and event. In a resource blog, a higher word count lets you describe each subtopic – such as different locations or activities – thoroughly.

One thing that makes a big difference in blog post length is how much “fluff” you want to include in the text. Some photographers prefer blogs written in complete sentences, in a very conversational tone, with anecdotes and calls to action throughout. But other photographers prefer a more bullet-pointed style, with less explanatory text after each heading.

Formatting options

In addition to writing the copy for your blog posts, I can also format and stage them on your website, so all you have to do is click “publish”! I offer a few different options for formatting blog posts . . .

01/ Text only

I’ll write just the text of your blog post and share it with you in a Google doc. You can then format and post the blog on your website.

02/ Simple formatting

I’ll format your blog post directly on your website and save it as a draft. I’ll apply simple formatting, such as applying headings and adding photos throughout.

03/ Complex formatting

Similar to simple formatting, I’ll format your blog post directly on your website and save it as a draft. I’ll apply design-focused formatting, including graphics, calls to action, and creative presentation of photos.

Content research

For resource blogs, I also offer the option to conduct content research. All you have to do is tell me the broad strokes of what you want your post to cover, and I’ll research and assemble accurate info on your topic of choice.

If you don’t opt to have me conduct content research, I’ll closely follow a content outline you provide, making sure your unique experience with the topic is clear in the copy.

What does a content outline look like?

If you need a consistent stream of blog posts each month, I also offer discounted blog writing subscriptions. Over the course of three months to a year, I’ll produce a set number of blogs for your website. The cost is billed monthly, instead of per project (at a discount off my regular prices)!

I have some suggested preset packages – but we can also put together a custom package if you have specific blogging needs.

All blog subscriptions also include a 60-minute strategy call to discuss your blog’s voice and tone, post structure, and long-term goals for your content.
